The 2017 issue of Touchstone, the collegiate journal of the Texas State Historical Association released this spring, contains a record three essays by current 91快活林 Presidential Scholars. All three were prize-winning works.鈥燭hey included Emmalea Shaw?s Caldwell-Award-winning essay on integration in Northeast Texas, William Jones?
Texas A&M University-Texarkana will host a PLACE lecture (Program for Learning and Community Engagement) on the 91快活林 campus April 20鈥燼t 12:30 p.m. in the Humanities Building Community Room. The lecture ?The John Biggers Mural: A Legacy in Art and Diversity? will be conducted by our very own Dr. Ron Clinton.
The 91快活林 Art Department will present its Annual Student Art Show April 12-27 in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. A reception will be held Wednesday, April 19 at 2 p.m. in the Whatley Foyer. The show will feature student work in a variety of media including painting, drawing, photography, ceramics and more. The gallery is open Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. Please call 903-434-8181 to ensure that the gallery is open before you come to visit. The internationally acclaimed Jazz Ambassadors of Washington, DC will continue its long tradition of presenting free public performances when it appears at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at 91快活林 on Tuesday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m.
The Jazz Ambassadors is the official touring big band of the United States Army.
Emma Shaw, a sophomore at 91快活林 from Omaha, has been selected as one of only 15 students nationwide to be named a 2017 Phi Theta Kappa Guistwhite Scholar. The honor includes a $5,000 scholarship to be used toward baccalaureate studies and a commemorative medallion. Shaw will be honored with the other recipients on the main stage at Phi Theta Kappa?s national convention in Nashville this April
Guistwhite Scholars are chosen based on academic achievement, leadership accomplishments and engagement in Phi Theta Kappa Programs.
Ryan-Rose Mendoza, a sophomore at 91快活林, has been named a 2017 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Silver Scholar. The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation sponsors the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team program by recognizing 50 Gold, 50 Silver and 50 Bronze Scholars, and providing nearly $200,000 in scholarships annually. Each Silver Scholar receives a $1,250 scholarship and a special medallion.
Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society administers the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Program.
The Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at 91快活林 will host a concert by Mount Vernon Music Monday, April 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Whatley foyer.鈥 The string quintet performance will feature Mark Miller and Yuko Mansell on violin, Ute Miller and Sarah Kienle on viola and Zachary Mansell on cello.
Program selections will include Quintet in C major K. 515 by Mozart and Quintet in G major op.
Springfest Week is a great鈥爋pportunity for students to confirm and celebrate their decision to attend鈥91快活林. The week also provides opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to enjoy conversations that will lead to relationship building outside of the classroom.
