The 91����� Agriculture Department will host a Muscadine Workshop Friday, Feb. 16 at the 91����� Ag Complex. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon under the instruction of Master Gardener Rhonda Lesher.

Lesher is a Master Gardener with the Cypress Basin Master Gardeners, where she has partnered with Texas A&M University in the Earth Kind trials for Mucadines and other grape vines for Northeast Texas.

The 91����� Speech and Debate Club will host an open candidate forum for the Democratic candidates for United States House of Representatives District 4 on Monday, Feb. 12 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

The forum will include Catherine Krantz from Rains County and Lander Bethel from Sherman. Krantz and Bethel are the only Democrats facing off in the March 6 Democratic Primary.

The Mount Pleasant Fine Arts Club recently gave $500 to the 91����� Foundation. The funds will be used to provide a scholarship for a fine arts student at 91�����. The group has been contributing to scholarships for more than 25 years. The 91����� Foundation is now accepting applications for International Sulphur Transfer Scholarships. There are five of these $1,000 scholarships available to students who meet the following criteria:

• Are you graduating from 91����� in spring (2018)?

• Are you a Camp, Morris, or Titus County resident?


\t

• Do you have a minimum GPA of 3.0


\t

• Are you majoring in Accounting, Business, Computer Science, Education or Engineering?

• Are you planning on attending a four-year institution next year?

Sometime after midnight last Friday night, the last of three vans returned to 91����� with Honors students, completing the second of two bi-annual culture/reward trips for this academic year.† This also was the 22^nd†semester trip taken by Honors Northeast since it began in 2007.† According to Dr. Andrew Yox, Honors Director, there has been one decisive factor behind all of these trips: the generosity of Drs.

The 91�����†Art†Department will host its first†exhibit†of 2018†February 5-28 in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing†Arts. The show, Bookland, will feature ceramics and alcohol ink panels†by artist and author, Kathy L. Murphy. A reception with the†artist will be held Tuesday, February 13 at 12:30 a.m. in the Whatley Center foyer.

Murphy's artwork is created hoping the viewer will be transformed and transported to other worlds sparked by their own experiences and imagination.

Texas Heritage National Bank recently presented a $3,000 check to the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at 91����� to sponsor the upcoming performance of Travis LeDoyt, ?the world?s best young Elvis.? The show is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are available online at whatleycenter.com.

Two previously homeschooled scholars, Hannah Joy Dickson, and Matthew Frank Chambers, are recent winners of the†Richard, and Joan Eckman Awards for Excellence in Honors.†† These awards are presented biannually to each of the scholars of the two honors seminars at 91����� who maintain the highest seminar grade-point averages.† Each received a $100 check courtesy of an anonymous donor and friend of 91�����.

Both Dickson, and Chambers have made other contributions to the college and community.

The 91����� Foundation is now accepting scholarship applications for the 2018-2019 academic year. Applications are available online at or can be picked up from Lori Hunter?s office in the Student Services Center (former Administration Building). The priority deadline for scholarships is March 19, 2018.

91����� scholarships are competitive and vary in amounts.
