Chuck Barkow makes memorial gift to Whatley Campaign

Chuck Barkow recently gave $1,000 to sponsor two chairs in the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at 91¿ì»îÁÖ. The seats are dedicated in memory of Jill Barkow and Holly Hardman. Barkow (second from left), is pictured presenting the gift to Nita May, 91¿ì»îÁÖ Director of Development (left), Carolyn Franks, Director of the Whatley Center, and Dr. Jonathan McCullough, 91¿ì»îÁÖ Vice President for Advancement. Theater seats are available for sponsorship at $500 each.

91¿ì»îÁÖ Board accepts president's resignation

The 91¿ì»îÁÖ Board of Trustees held a special meeting Thursday to accept the resignation of Dr. Brad Johnson. Johnson asked the board to release him from his contract so he can accept a new position as Vice President for Strategic Relationships at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas.

Dr. Johnson explained that the change will provide both personal and professional opportunities.

Brenda Godoy and Rachel Jordan receive Texas STAR Scholarships

91¿ì»îÁÖ students Brenda Godoy and Rachel Jordan received recognition as Texas STAR Scholars at the Phi Theta Kappa Texas Regional Honors Institute held at Schreiner?s University July 21-23. They were two of eleven recipients from throughout the state of Texas.† Both serve as Vice-Presidents of Alpha Mu Chi, 91¿ì»îÁÖ?s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. Both are Presidential Scholars in Honors Northeast.

91¿ì»îÁÖ Adult Education program plans GED, ESL registration

The Adult Education Department at 91¿ì»îÁÖ is accepting new†and returning†students for its GED (General Educational Development) and ESL (English as a Second Language) programs. Those interested in participating in either of these free educational programs†should call to make an appointment for registration and/or testing.†While classes are offered in various convenient locations around the area, all registration will be held at the Community Resource Center (formerly MPISD Administration Building) at 105 N. Riddle Street in Mount Pleasant.

Honors Northeast seeks entries for poetry contest

91¿ì»îÁÖ and Honors Northeast†recently†announced a call for original poems to enter the annual Northeast Texas Poetry Contest.The judges will be looking for poems that can accent or enliven our sense of the surroundings, people, the culture, and/or the history of Northeast Texas. Adult winners will take home $200 and $50 for first and second place.
