Nancy Blount recently gave $500 to establish the Velma Lee Buck Blount Williams Memorial Scholarship at 91¿ì»îÁÖ. The gift was given by Nancy in memory of her late mother, Velma (pictured), a longtime Pittsburg resident. The scholarship will benefit an 91¿ì»îÁÖ student from Camp or Wood counties. For the second year in a row, Texas Heritage National Bank has sponsored a full scholarship for a 91¿ì»îÁÖ Presidential Scholar. Cassidy Watkins, of Daingerfield, has been named the 2017-2018 Texas Heritage National Bank Scholar.

The scholarship covers tuition, fees and books for Watkins? sophomore year at 91¿ì»îÁÖ.

?This kind of privately funded, full academic scholarship gives dynamic students like Watkins time advantages, and a route to leverage greater awards,? Dr. Andrew Yox, Honors Director, said.

The Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society has selected Chesney Davis to receive a $1,500 scholarship as the 2017 Dr. Mary Hood Texas Region Scholar.

A mechanical engineering major, Davis is a Priefert Manufacturing engineering intern, 91¿ì»îÁÖ Presidential Honors Scholar and the Texas Regional Vice President for Phi Theta Kappa.† In addition, Davis serves as a ?Supplemental Instruction?

The 91¿ì»îÁÖ Art Department will host its first exhibit of the 2017-2018 school year September 5-27 in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. The show, ?Art from the Heart?, will feature graphite artwork by Maurya Beth Holland. A reception with the artist will be held Monday, Sept. 18 at 11:30 a.m. in the Whatley Center foyer.

†Texas A&M University-Texarkana has been named one of the†?12 Most Innovative Colleges for Adult Learners? in the United States by the editors of Washington Monthly magazine.

For the 10th straight year,†Cypress Bank†has presented a MacBook computer for the use of 91¿ì»îÁÖ honors students.†This year?s recipient is Jordan Whelchel.† He is a recent graduate of Daingerfield High School who already has become active in Honors film and Phi Theta Kappa activities at 91¿ì»îÁÖ.†Whelchel plans to major in physics.

The Tenth Annual Northeast Texas Poetry Reading at 91¿ì»îÁÖ will include special remarks by two local educators. †Dr. Elaine Beason, a retired professor of Texas A&M University-Texarkana, and Kristin Ellermann, a young educator who taught with the Peace Corps in the Republic of Georgia, and also as a Disney instructor in Shanghai, China, will supplement the reading of winning poems with observations about local life.
