91¿ì»îÁÖ Foundation raises $15,000 for East Texas Giving Day

Many thanks to everyone who supported the 91¿ì»îÁÖ Foundation on East Texas Giving Day on April 24. Thanks to the generosity of friends and 91¿ì»îÁÖ employees, more than 80 donations were received for a total of $14,647.19 during the event. Another generous donor gave after the deadline to make an even $15,000 raised. This more than doubled the amount raised in 2017. These funds will go a long way to providing scholarships and special projects for student organizations and additional donations continue to pour in.

Two 91¿ì»îÁÖ students win Jack Kent Cooke transfer scholarships

Alicia Cantrell and Brenda Godoy, students at 91¿ì»îÁÖ, are two of just 47 recipients of the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation?s prestigious Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. This highly competitive national scholarship will provide these two local recipients with up to $40,000 annually for a maximum of three years to complete their bachelor?s degrees.

Nearly 2,500 students applied for the Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship this year.

91¿ì»îÁÖ Art announces annual student show winners

The 91¿ì»îÁÖ Art Department recently held its annual Student Art Show in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. Students submitted their best work in a variety of media. The contest was open to all 91¿ì»îÁÖ students, not just those enrolled in art classes.

Theatre Northeast to host showcase performances

The 91¿ì»îÁÖ theatre department will host a Theatre Northeast Showcase April 26-29 at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. The production will feature current students and Theatre Northeast alumni. The Thursday, Friday and Saturday shows will be held at 7:30 p.m. The Sunday matinee will be at 2:05 p.m. General admission tickets are $5, students 17 and under are $3 and senior citizens and 91¿ì»îÁÖ faculty and staff are free with ID. Tickets will be available at the box office or you can call 903-434-8181 for more information.

Alicia Cantrell named Coca-Cola Academic Team Gold Scholar

Alicia Cantrell, a student at 91¿ì»îÁÖ, has been named a 2018 Coca-Cola Academic Team Gold Scholar and will receive a $1,500 scholarship.

Students are nominated for the academic team by their college administrators. Selection is based on academic achievement, leadership, and engagement in college and community service.

A graduate of Mount Vernon High School, Alicia serves as President of the Phi Theta Kappa chapter on the 91¿ì»îÁÖ campus and is a Presidential Scholar in Honors Northeast.

Adult Education to host GED commencement

The 91¿ì»îÁÖ Adult Education program will hold its General Education Development (GED) commencement ceremony on Thursday, May†10, 2018†at 7 p.m. at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts.† All students who have completed the 91¿ì»îÁÖ GED program during the past year will be honored.† Family and friends of graduates are invited to attend.† A brief reception will be held in the Whatley Center foyer after the commencement ceremony.
