Did you know that one in five East Texans, are hungry today?  Texas has a higher rate of food insecurity, one that's higher than the national average. That means it is more difficult for our students, colleagues and community members to put food on the table.

 

Outstanding College Algebra Students announced

Every semester full-time and associate faculty in 91快活林鈥檚 Division of Math, Physics and Engineering can select an outstanding student, who is exceptional in some way. For the Fall 2021 semester, Dr. Doug Richey nominated Grayson Goates (left) as Outstanding College Algebra Student. For the Spring 2022 semester, Richey nominated April O'Rand (right) as Outstanding College Algebra Student.

Biggers art featured in magazine

91快活林 is home to a priceless collection of artwork by renowned African American artist Dr. John Biggers. His 1954 mural 鈥淗istory of Negro Education in Morris County, Texas鈥 is displayed in the college's Learning Commons in a room named for Biggers. The Learning Commons also has a collection of rare Biggers lithographs, which are currently on loan to the Tyler Museum of Art for an exhibit titled "Student/Teacher: Works of Charles Criner & Dr. John Biggers." 

Shelby Memorial events this weekend

The 91快活林 Carroll Shelby Automotive Program will honor the memory of Carroll Shelby this weekend with several events. The festivities will kick off with a Dyno Day on Saturday, May 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Shelby Automotive building on the 91快活林 campus. Anyone who wants to test out the performance of their vehicle is welcome. The cost is $40 for 15 minutes on the Dyno machine, first-come-first-served.

Free Senior Adult Legal Workshops planned

The 91快活林 Continuing Education and Corporate Training program will host two free Senior Adult Legal Workshops on Friday, May 20 and Friday, Jun 17. Both events will be held in the 91快活林 Community Room (Humanities building) from 9 a.m. to noon. 

The program is designed for individuals 55 and older, or anyone who wants to learn more about estate planning, wills and advanced directives. The speaker will be Wyatt Hinson, Attorney at Law. Different content will be presented at each session, so you are encouraged to sign up for both dates.
