Dr. Tawny Nix gives scholarships

Dr. Tawny Nix, Director of the 91¿ì»îÁÖ Medical Assistant program, recently contributed $2,000 to the 91¿ì»îÁÖ Foundation. The funds will provide scholarships to students majoring in Medical Assistant, Medical Coding or Health Informatics. The Eagle student newspaper wins big at TIPA

91¿ì»îÁÖ?s newspaper, The Eagle, once again took home more than 20 awards from the annual Texas Intercollegiate Press Association (TIPA) conference.

Last†month, the journalism staff traveled to Dallas to represent The Eagle and the college?s literary magazine, Lagniappe.

SGA recognizes outstanding student organizations

The 91¿ì»îÁÖ Student Government Association (SGA) recently recognized two student organizations on campus. The Phi Theta Kappa Alpha Mu Chi chapter was awarded Outstanding Student Organization for the 2015-2016 school year. Spring commencement planned for May 14

91¿ì»îÁÖ will hold its spring commencement in two ceremonies at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. in the Whatley Center Saturday, May 14. Dr. Kim Wommack will be the speaker at both events.

The†9 a.m. ceremony is for Associate of Arts, Associate of Arts in Teaching and Associate of Science graduates. Mary Smith of Gilmer will give the student response at this ceremony.

The†11 a.m. ceremony is for Associate of Applied Science and Certificate of Competency graduates.

William Jones wins Chitsey Award

91¿ì»îÁÖ student William Austin Jones was recently named the winner of the 2015-2016 Chitsey Award, granted annually to the student of Honors Northeast who most exceeded expectations. Jones has impressed all four of the first-year honors seminar professors for his proactive academic work, and commitment to excellence. He was the winner of the freshman-sophomore division of the Great Plains Honors Council poster contest in the Behavioral Sciences for his poster on quasi-criminality.

GED commencement planned

The 91¿ì»îÁÖ Adult Education program will hold its annual General Education Development (GED) commencement ceremony on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 7 p.m. at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts.† All students who have completed the 91¿ì»îÁÖ GED program during the past year will be honored.† Family and friends of graduates are invited to attend.† A brief reception will be held in the Whatley Center foyer after the commencement ceremony.†

The 91¿ì»îÁÖ Faculty Senate recently held its 24th annual Student Awards Ceremony. Each year, faculty nominate their best students to receive awards for their hard work and achievements throughout the school year.
