Two 91¿ì»îÁÖ students win prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship

91¿ì»îÁÖ Presidential Scholars, Jessica Velazquez of Mount Vernon and Angelica Fuentes of Mount Pleasant were recently awarded Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarships. These prestigious awards cover up to $40,000†annually at a university of the student?s choice for up to three†years. Only†75 students were selected from more than 2,000 top applicants in a very competitive process for this national honor.

Two GED grads win J. Travis Jackson scholarship

Shawna Lunsford (center) of Mount Pleasant and Brandy Moss (right) of Winnsboro were recently†presented with the J. Travis Jackson†GED†Scholarship during the†2016 GED graduation ceremony hosted by the 91¿ì»îÁÖ Adult Education Department.†This $500 award is given by the Mount Pleasant Rotary Club in memory of Jackson, who was a long time adult educator in Titus County. 91¿ì»îÁÖ names library for Charlie and Helen Hampton

91¿ì»îÁÖ recently announced that its library has been renamed the Charlie and Helen Hampton Learning Resource Center (LRC). The 91¿ì»îÁÖ Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve the new building name in their April board meeting. This is the first name change in a recently-launched fundraising/naming campaign by the 91¿ì»îÁÖ Foundation. The naming campaign comes as the campus interior undergoes a major transformation.

Helen Hampton and her late husband, Charlie, of Naples, are longtime friends of 91¿ì»îÁÖ.

International Sulphur gives five transfer scholarships

International Sulphur, Inc. recently made a scholarship donation to the 91¿ì»îÁÖ Foundation.†Marci Henderson (left), is pictured presenting a $5,000 check to Dr. Jonathan McCullough, 91¿ì»îÁÖ Vice President for Advancement. The funds will be used to award five $1,000 scholarships to students who graduated from 91¿ì»îÁÖ in the spring of 2016†and†will be†transferring to four-year†universities†this fall.

Kassandra V. Martinez, a 91¿ì»îÁÖ Honors Scholar, and Tanika Santos, a member of the 91¿ì»îÁÖ Women?s Soccer Team have become the first winners of the Bonnie Spencer Awards for superior essays in history.† Spencer, an alumna of Northeast, and the leader of 91¿ì»îÁÖ?s first history club in 2003, established the fund that awards the prizes. She also read the submissions, and helped select the winners.

91¿ì»îÁÖ to offer iCan Kids Discovery College this summer

The 91¿ì»îÁÖ Continuing Education Department is planning a variety of fun courses for kids ages 8-15 this summer. Registration is now open for the iCan Kids Discovery College, which will be held in two sessions.

Cassia Rose wins 91¿ì»îÁÖ McGraw-Hill Poster Contest

91¿ì»îÁÖ held its ninth†annual McGraw-Hill Poster contest Friday, April 29. The event was held in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts and featured research by 20 of 91¿ì»îÁÖ?s most decorated scholars. The contest has become an annual test of creative research in Northeast Texas, funded in part by the McGraw-Hill Corporation, and judged by friends of the college, and Honors Northeast.

91¿ì»îÁÖ receives gift to restore John Biggers mural

The 91¿ì»îÁÖ Foundation recently received a $10,000 gift from the East Texas Communities Foundation and the Burt and Nancy Marans Estate. Dr. Brad Johnson, 91¿ì»îÁÖ President (right) and Dr. Jonathan McCullough, 91¿ì»îÁÖ Vice President for Advancement, are pictured receiving the donation. †The funds will be used to begin the restoration process for the Dr. John Biggers mural that will be relocated from Pewitt Elementary School to the 91¿ì»îÁÖ Charlie and Helen Hampton Learning Resource Center.
