Whatley Center announces 2018-2019 show lineup

The Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at 91快活林 recently announced its 2018-2019 entertainment lineup. Season tickets are on sale now and individual ticket sales begin Wednesday, Aug. 15.

The Entertainment Series, which is included in all Friends of the Whatley season ticket packages, kicks off with the 3 Redneck Tenors on September 25. They are a ?new breed? of tenors, combining musical comedy with classically-trained singers to create a truly entertaining experience. The 3 Redneck Tenors are sponsored by Ruby R. Neely.

Adult Education accepting students for free GED, ESL classes

The Adult Education Department at 91快活林 is accepting new鈥燼nd returning鈥爏tudents for its GED (General Educational Development) and ESL (English as a Second Language) programs. Those interested in participating in either of these free educational programs鈥爏hould call to make an appointment for registration. 鈥燱hile classes are offered in various convenient locations around the area, all registration will be held at the Community Resource Center (formerly MPISD Administration Building) at 105 N. Riddle Street in Mount Pleasant.

Continuing Education offers summer courses for kids and adults

The 91快活林 Continuing Education Department is offering two great new classes this summer. Introduction to Drone Technology is a four-day course for ages 10-16. It is designed to teach students how to safely operate drones and will focus on operating them within the rules and regulations of the FAA. Topics will include basic operation and maintenance, programming and flying skills. The class will be held July 30 through August 2 from 8 a.m. to noon on the main 91快活林 campus. Drones and other equipment are provided in class.

91快活林 receives $53,000 in matching funds for Work Scholarship Program

91快活林 recently received a check for $53,000 in scholarships from the U.S. Department of Education. Nita May (left), 91快活林 Director of Development, and Dr. Jonathan McCullough, 91快活林 Executive Vice President for Advancement are pictured receiving the gift. This grant was awarded as matching funds for gifts received for the 91快活林 Work Scholarship Program. Around 100 donors have given more than $85,000 this year to support the innovative program that allows students to work in the summer to prepay for their college education.

Two 91快活林 Honors students receive Eckman Awards

For their performance in challenging honors seminars at 91快活林 in relation to their peers, two Presidential Scholars have recently won $100 checks.鈥 Texas Heritage National Bank Scholar, Cassidy Watkins, who graduated this past May, was the sophomore who took all three honors seminars at 91快活林, and ended with the highest GPA.鈥 Matthew Chambers won his award as an honors freshman, ranking number one in the Stat-Psych Honors Seminar taught this past spring by Dr. Karyn Skaar and Dr. Paula Wilhite.
