The Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at 91����� recently announced its 2018-2019 entertainment lineup. Season tickets are on sale now and individual ticket sales begin Wednesday, Aug. 15.

The Entertainment Series, which is included in all Friends of the Whatley season ticket packages, kicks off with the 3 Redneck Tenors on September 25. They are a ?new breed? of tenors, combining musical comedy with classically-trained singers to create a truly entertaining experience. The 3 Redneck Tenors are sponsored by Ruby R. Neely.

The transfer support team will be hosting an event with UT Tyler Thursday, July 26 in the SUB 101 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.†The event is to help 91����� students be informed about what degrees UT Tyler offers and what requirements are needed for each degree.

The Adult Education Department at 91����� is accepting new†and returning†students for its GED (General Educational Development) and ESL (English as a Second Language) programs. Those interested in participating in either of these free educational programs†should call to make an appointment for registration. †While classes are offered in various convenient locations around the area, all registration will be held at the Community Resource Center (formerly MPISD Administration Building) at 105 N. Riddle Street in Mount Pleasant.

This Summer, August 13-17, the scholars of Honors Northeast will film their annual cinematic production on a figure of regional interest.† This year?s subject, Northeast Texas heroine, Barbara Smith Conrad, suffered through a bruising discrimination case at the University of Texas at Austin in 1957.† The university president at that time, Dr.

91����� and Texas A&M University-Texarkana recently signed articulation agreements for the following 2+2 degree plans. These allow students to take the first two years of courses at 91����� and transfer seamlessly to A&M-Texarkana to complete a bachelor's degree.

The 91����� Continuing Education Department is offering two great new classes this summer. Introduction to Drone Technology is a four-day course for ages 10-16. It is designed to teach students how to safely operate drones and will focus on operating them within the rules and regulations of the FAA. Topics will include basic operation and maintenance, programming and flying skills. The class will be held July 30 through August 2 from 8 a.m. to noon on the main 91����� campus. Drones and other equipment are provided in class.

91����� recently received a check for $53,000 in scholarships from the U.S. Department of Education. Nita May (left), 91����� Director of Development, and Dr. Jonathan McCullough, 91����� Executive Vice President for Advancement are pictured receiving the gift. This grant was awarded as matching funds for gifts received for the 91����� Work Scholarship Program. Around 100 donors have given more than $85,000 this year to support the innovative program that allows students to work in the summer to prepay for their college education.

For their performance in challenging honors seminars at 91����� in relation to their peers, two Presidential Scholars have recently won $100 checks.† Texas Heritage National Bank Scholar, Cassidy Watkins, who graduated this past May, was the sophomore who took all three honors seminars at 91�����, and ended with the highest GPA.† Matthew Chambers won his award as an honors freshman, ranking number one in the Stat-Psych Honors Seminar taught this past spring by Dr. Karyn Skaar and Dr. Paula Wilhite.
