On Sunday, 7 August at 3 p.m., Samuel Anderson Pollan will feature works of Johann Sebastian Bach, and other classics of the literature for pipe organ at the First United Methodist Church of Pittsburg. The church is located at 109 College Street. The public is invited, and admission is free. Refreshments will be served after the recital.

Pollan graduated this past spring from Daingerfield High School. He was a trumpet section leader of the band, a member of the National Honor Society, and of the Student Council.

Honors Northeast, the honors program of 91����� announces a call for poems and images that can accent or enliven our sense of the surroundings, people, the culture, and/or the history of Northeast Texas.

Since 2008, the honors program of 91����� has published a biannual newsletter.  The recently released 2022 summer edition can be accessed by clicking here. The current newsletter provides a summary of student successes in the spring of 2022, including Aaliyah Avellaneda’s winning of one of the 100 Jack Kent Cooke scholarships in the nation. 

Jordan Chapin and Raul Leija recently won scholarships at the Phi Theta Kappa Texas Honors Institute, which ended July 17. Students receiving the STAR scholarships from Phi Theta Kappa must have demonstrated academic and leadership promise. Phi Theta Kappa members from any community college in the state of Texas are eligible for the award.

Members of Alpha Mu Chi, 91�����’s five-star, award-winning chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, attended and participated in the Texas Honors Institute held at Texas Lutheran University July 15-17. The conference theme was “Level Up: Choose Your Own Adventure.”

Jordan Chapin recently won the Dr. Mary Hood STAR Scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship recognizes the student with the highest scoring application among those who applied for the summer 2022 Texas STAR scholarships. The scholarship is available to Phi Theta Kappa members throughout the state of Texas and is awarded on the last day of the Texas Honors Institute, which concluded on July 17.

The 91����� Ag Department announced Thursday that it has cancelled its upcoming farmers markets due to extreme heat and drought. Instead, they will continue to focus on keeping the animals healthy and cared for.

Jordan Chapin, a student at 91����� serving as the Texas Regional President of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, spoke at the opening plenary session at this year’s Community College Association of Texas Trustees meeting in Houston.

The 91����� EMS Program is part of a special initiative offering up to a full scholarship for Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic and Paramedic students who qualify for entry into the program. Current EMTs who would like to transition to the Paramedic program are also eligible for scholarships.
