Jacob Lambie campaigning for PTK international officer position

Lambie

Jacob Lambie, Executive Officer of Alpha Mu Chi, Phi Theta Kappa鈥檚 chapter at 91快活林, recently completed his term as a Texas Regional Vice-President, but this was just the beginning of his leadership journey.  Lambie has announced his campaign for Phi Theta Kappa Division II International Vice-President.  This is the highest position of student leadership within the organization.  Lambie鈥檚 professional, yet compassionate, demeanor along with his innate passion towards mental health awareness and helping others has allowed him to successfully inspire and lead others.  Academically, he represents our college as an Honors Northeast Presidential Scholar, Pearson Scholar, All-Texas Academic Team Member, Coca-Cola Gold Team Member, Guistwhite Scholar, and Star Scholar from the Texas Region.

The International Officers of Phi Theta Kappa are composed of a President and Vice Presidents from each of the designated divisions. The International Officers are elected annually by voting delegates from each chapter at PTK Catalyst and serve a one-year term as ambassadors of Phi Theta Kappa, advocating for the Society by clearly articulating the mission, goals, and accomplishments to the members and college community. This includes traveling to PTK regional events and other conferences.  Rather than simply cancel this year鈥檚 convention due to the recent health concerns, innovative leaders and creative minds of PTK will be hosting the first ever virtual event on April 16-17.

Lambie will be running against eight other candidates from Division II, including students from Texas, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Florida.  Campaigning is currently taking place on social media.  His campaign announcement post reads,  鈥淚 would like to humbly announce my campaign for Phi Theta Kappa Division 2 Vice President, but this may be a different campaign than you鈥檙e expecting because this is about you not me. It鈥檚 my mission in life to take care of others and make them feel wanted, so this campaign will not be fancy. It鈥檚 going to be straight one-on-one talks with you through videos and messages. I鈥檓 not trying to speak to a faceless mass; I鈥檓 trying to speak to YOU.鈥

Lambie鈥檚 campaign messages also entails 鈥渢aking the sting out of stigmas,鈥 creating an environment where everyone belongs, and challenging the idea of an honor student.  Supporters are encouraged to like and share his material on Facebook and Instagram, as well as attend and ask questions during live videos.

鈥淛acob has shown himself to be a strong leader and inspirational example throughout his time at 91快活林. An excellent natural speaker confident in front of crowds, he is genuinely compassionate and caring about each individual. In this time of quarantine and self-isolation, take a moment to check out his social media campaign and encourage someone who sets a positive example academically and emotionally, representing 91快活林 quite well,鈥 said Dr. Melissa Fulgham, lead advisor for PTK.

鈥淚n terms of Honors Northeast, Presidential Scholar Jacob Lambie is the first student in 91快活林鈥檚 history to a have a leadership position in two Caldwell-Award winning films,鈥 noted Honors Director, Dr. Andrew Yox.  "He has consistently encouraged his peers, and recruited winsomely for 91快活林.  Our Honors Committee has named Jacob as one of two 91快活林 Boe nominees for an unprecedented two years in a row.  I believe he can win this coveted position.鈥

Tune in next Wednesday, April 1st, and next Saturday, April 4th, at 5:30 p.m. for a Facebook Live Q & A with Jacob to hear more about his story and campaign goals.  He also hosts a "Taking Care of Yourself" series with tips, tricks and suggestions in order to make sure everyone stays healthy and happy in these uncertain times.  This will be on his personal page, so feel free to friend request - Jacob is a friend to all!
