91快活林 and Honors Northeast鈥爎ecently鈥燼nnounced a call for original poems to enter the ninth鈥燼nnual Northeast Texas Poetry Contest. The judges will be looking for poems that can accent or enliven our sense of the surroundings, people, the culture, and/or the history of Northeast Texas. Adult winners will take home $200 for first place and $50 for second place. Full-time student winners will receive $400 for first place, $300 for second, $200 for third, and $100 for fourth. All ages are welcome to enter the contest. Any genre of poem, and at any length, can compete. To win an award, contestants must be willing to read their poems at a poetry reading鈥燜riday, Sept. 2鈥爄n the 91快活林 Whatley Center Foyer at 11 a.m. A committee of 91快活林 faculty judges will determine the top poems.
To compete, send preliminary questions, and/or your poem, principle occupation, and telephone number to Honors Director, Dr. Andrew Yox, at鈥ayox@ntcc.edu鈥燽y noon on Friday, Aug. 26.鈥 Contestants may view all past winners since 2008 at ntcc.edu/honors. The Honors Northeast site also contains prize-winning essays and feature-length films on Northeast Texas.
