Michelle Calderon and Aubrey Watkins win Texas Regional Scholarships

Michelle Calderon and Aubrey Watkins were recently awarded scholarships at the Phi Theta Kappa Texas Honors Institute. The PTK convention concluded on July 16 and scholarships were awarded. Those who have received the STAR scholarships from Phi Theta Kappa demonstrated academic and leadership promise. Phi Theta Kappa members from any community college in the state of Texas are eligible for the award.

91¿ì»îÁÖ alumna, Clara Ramirez, wins residency at Duke University

Clara Ramirez, 91¿ì»îÁÖ’s pioneer winner of the Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship in 2010, recently won a residency at Duke University as a primary-care Administrative Fellow.  She is moving this summer from her home in Fort Worth to Durham, North Carolina to assume her new role.

Winners of annual McGraw-Hill Poster Contest announced

On 5 May, for the fifteenth time, community judges and 91¿ì»îÁÖ students converged on the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at 91¿ì»îÁÖ for an annual McGraw-Hill Poster Contest.  The scholarly competition was enabled again by generous grants, from Beverly Kelley of Mount Vernon, and the McGraw-Hill Education Corporation—through the special work of Bill Welsh, and Casey Slaght who work in the corporate office in Dubuque, Iowa.  

Skylar Fondren named Coca-Cola Academic Team Gold Scholar

Skylar Fondren, a Presidential Honors Scholar at 91¿ì»îÁÖ, has been named a 2023 Coca-Cola Academic Team Gold Scholar and will receive a $1,500 scholarship.

Skylar was named a Leader of Promise by Phi Theta Kappa in 2021 and has been very active in Honors Northeast, Phi Theta Kappa, and 91¿ì»îÁÖ’s Journalism program.
