Jennifer Harland,†Manager of External Affairs for AEP SWEPCO†(center), recently made a $1,000 contribution to The 91¿ì»îÁÖ Work Scholarship Program. Dr. Kevin Rose (left), 91¿ì»îÁÖ Vice President for Instruction and Dr. Ron Clinton (right), 91¿ì»îÁÖ President, accepted the gift on behalf of the 91¿ì»îÁÖ Foundation. The funds will be used to sponsor a student enrolled in the program this summer.

Scott Wesson recently gave $10,000 to create the Jerry Wesson Honors Scholarship at 91¿ì»îÁÖ. †The scholarship is in the honor of Scott?s father, Dr. Jerry Wesson, for his legacy in higher education. When the college opened, he was an original member of the college?s administrative staff as the first Dean of Student Services. † Later, he served as Vice President of Student Services for many years. Thomas and April Bliss recently presented the 91¿ì»îÁÖ Foundation with $2,000 for scholarships. The Sharon Bliss Memorial scholarship is in memory of Thomas? mother,†who had a long career as a respiratory therapist.†This scholarship†benefits a student studying health sciences at 91¿ì»îÁÖ. The Bradyn Dawn Loy Memorial Scholarship†is†in memory of the Mount Vernon High School student and friend of the Bliss family.

The 91¿ì»îÁÖ Foundation recently received a $10,000 donation from the Gloria Norwood estate. The funds established the Bradley Syd Norwood Memorial Scholarship, which will provide scholarships to students in the Carroll Shelby Automotive Technology Program. Gloria, who was a resident of Naples, planned the gift in her will. Her late son, Bradley, attended the 91¿ì»îÁÖ Automotive Program in the early 1990s. The Mount Pleasant Fine Arts Club recently gave $500 to support the Work Scholarship Program at 91¿ì»îÁÖ. The gift, which is in addition to their annual scholarship, will be matched by two grants for a total impact of $1,500. Dr. Jon McCullough, 91¿ì»îÁÖ Executive Vice President for Advancement (center) and Nita May, 91¿ì»îÁÖ Director of Development (right) accepted the gift on behalf of the 91¿ì»îÁÖ Foundation. Many thanks to everyone who supported the 91¿ì»îÁÖ Foundation on East Texas Giving Day on April 24. Thanks to the generosity of friends and 91¿ì»îÁÖ employees, more than 80 donations were received for a total of $14,647.19 during the event. Another generous donor gave after the deadline to make an even $15,000 raised. This more than doubled the amount raised in 2017. These funds will go a long way to providing scholarships and special projects for student organizations and additional donations continue to pour in.

For the third year in a row, the 91¿ì»îÁÖ Foundation is participating in East Texas Giving Day.

The Preston Currey Family, of Hughes Springs, recently gave $10,000 to establish the Joyce Ellison Currey Memorial Scholarship at 91¿ì»îÁÖ. The perpetual scholarship will be used to provide financial assistance to students majoring in nursing at 91¿ì»îÁÖ. Joyce Ellison Currey was a nurse at Titus Regional Medical Center for decades and spent her career lovingly caring for patients and mentoring the next generation of nurses.
