Members of Alpha Mu Chi, 91快活林鈥檚 five-star, award-winning chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, attended and participated in the Texas Regional Honors Institute held at Dallas Baptist University July 27-29. A total of 279 members from throughout the Texas region gathered to hear thought-provoking speakers, discuss the ideas heard in small seminar group settings, attend educational forums, develop leadership skills, and network.
Chapter President, Rhylie Anderson, along with alumni member, and former Chapter President, Alicia Cantrell, presented a workshop on 鈥淪ervice and Advocacy鈥 with members from Trinity Valley Community College.
Alumni member Isaac Burris, who serves on the Texas Regional Leadership Team for Phi Theta Kappa as Associate Director of Programming, worked behind the scenes to help ensure that the event went well.
Melissa Fulgham, 91快活林鈥檚 chapter lead advisor, and Mary Ellen Young, Texarkana College鈥檚 chapter lead advisor, served as co-seminar leaders, facilitating group discussion of the ideas presented by the speakers at the Texas Honors Institute. Fulgham also presented a forum on the topic 鈥淰isions of Justice.鈥
91快活林 is part of District III of the Texas Region. At the District III meeting, two Alpha Mu Chi members were recognized for recently achieving Five Star Member Status: Erick Gaytan Fernandez and Jordan Whelchel.
At the conclusion of the event, the Texas STAR Scholarships were given out. Chapter members Hannah Dickson and Rhylie Anderson received the top two Texas STAR Scholarships, each of which were valued at $1,000.
