mp chamber orchestra on stage

The Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at 91快活林 is pleased to host the Mount Pleasant Chamber Orchestra on Saturday, April 13th at 7:30 p.m. Part of the Sounds of Northeast series, this is the last performance of the Whatley鈥檚 2023-2024 season.

鈥淚f you haven鈥檛 watched them perform yet, you are in for a rare treat with the Mount Pleasant Chamber Orchestra,鈥 Carolyn Franks, Director of the Whatley Center said. 鈥淭hey have assembled a fantastic group of local musicians that can rival the talent of orchestras from much larger cities.鈥

Led by David Mills, the Mount Pleasant Chamber Orchestra is a project of the heart a decade in the making. In 2009, a group of string instrument enthusiasts gathered to play string orchestra music. Over the years, it has rehearsed at Deanna Warren鈥檚 Music Connection, 91快活林 and various churches. After Covid-19 and the lack of live musical performances, the group became the Mount Pleasant Chamber Orchestra and is on a mission to provide an outlet for musicians to perform for our local community of music lovers.

The Concert is called All American. It is the third concert of our third season, and the orchestra's ninth concert in total. The orchestra is still made up of local volunteers. The premise of the program is famous pieces of classical music either about America or written by American composers.

Selections will include:
American Salute - Morton Gould
Adagio for Strings - Barber
An American in Paris -Gershwin
American Suite - Dvorak
Romance - McDowell
1812 Overture - Tchaikovsky
Fanfare for the Common Man - Copland
The Entertainer - Joplin

Tickets to the 91快活林 performance are $20 for adults and $5 for children 17-and-under and 91快活林 students with valid ID. Visit to purchase your seats online or purchase at the box office on the day of the event.
