Northeast Texas Poetry Reading to feature local speakers

The Ninth Annual Northeast Texas Poetry Reading鈥爓ill be held in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at 91快活林 on Friday, Sept. 2 at 11 a.m. The reading will feature two speakers with broad historical interests in our region.

Sid Hicks, a Mount Vernon High School history teacher and regional historian, is a mentor of successful student writers such as Jessica Velazquez, who recently published an article in鈥罢辞耻肠丑蝉迟辞苍别.鈥犫赌Dr. Jerry Wesson, a former 91快活林 Vice President, is the鈥燼uthor of鈥The Miracle on FM 1735 (the definitive history of 91快活林) and is an expert on the educational history of our area.

The reading will also feature the six winning authors of the Northeast Texas poetry contest, who will present their poems in person. Dr. Chuck Hamilton, professor of English at 91快活林, will chair the proceedings. The contest will help determine what poems best represent, define, evoke, and/or describe our region. 鈥燭he reading is free and open to the public.
